Moïra Fowley

author | artist | tarot reader

I am the author of three critically acclaimed YA novels, and a part-time witch. I'm half-Irish, half-French, and live in Dublin where I spend my time raising two little witches, painting street art with my girlfriend, and reading tarot. My talents include killing houseplants and always knowing what phase the moon is in.

I have a Masters in Popular Literature from Trinity College Dublin and wrote half a PhD on teenage vampires in young adult fiction before leaving academia when my first book sold and my first baby was born in the space of a few months and I realised I could only do two of those three things and keep my sanity.

I've actually never been particularly fond of vampire stories; I much prefer ghosts, body horror, and vengeful women. My first three novels – queer feminist young adult fabulism, if I had to give them a genre – are all about generational trauma, family secrets, and the absolute horror of being a teenage girl. My adult fiction, however, focuses on gleefully horrible queer femininity, female desire, appetite and madness. I like to describe EYES GUTS THROAT BONES as a bloodthirsty, gore-filled, misandrist collection of end-of-the-world lesbian love stories. I hope you love it.
